Gluttony means over-indulgence or lack of self-restraint. So how could that be a good thing? Well if you think about it how often have you felt frustrated because you felt restrained from being honest or simply saying what’s on your mind? So picture instead you being completely open about what you think and feel. Experience yourself stepping way from the crowd and being who you really are instead of being scared about being laughed at. This is where being a glutton for punishment make you different and in a good way So we say be a glutton and accept no limitations except those you set for yourself

Greed means intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth or power. So if we did not feel a bit of greed sometimes what would happen? You would not ask for that pay rise, dream about a new business or put yourself forward for that next promotion. Without  a touch of greed we would not feel a need to improve ourselves and push ourselves to achieve more. And the great thing about doing those things is that we benefit other people. We create new jobs, are better leaders focused on changing the world for the better because we know we do not get more power or wealth without adding value. So we say be greedy and let it push you

Pride means a feeling of happiness you get when you or someone else achieves something hard or difficult. Do you remember that time your teacher praised you or when you did something your friends told you couldn’t. Your step was little bit lighter, your head held a little bit higher. Pride gives you a belief in yourself, it allows you to face the crap that life throws at you (and we all now it will) with certainty that you will come out the otherside better and stronger. Pride in your teams success, sport or business, stops us feeling isolated and makes us feel part of something bigger. Pride in friends and family makes us feel more connected and allows us

Wrath means extreme anger. Now expressed in the wrong way ( I immediately think road rage) that is not a good thing but harnessed it is probably the cause of more good than anything. Extreme anger at injustices caused Martin Luther King to “have a dream” Extreme anger at discrimination led the suffragette movement to take women out of the shadows Extreme anger at monarchies led to democracy Wrath is the rocket fuel essential for great changes, whether personally or on the bigger scale. It is the passion that keeps you going in the face of adversity. So we say let you Wrath fuel you passions

Envy is a desire to have a quality, possession, or other desirable thing belonging to someone else. Think of someone you admire. I bet you thought about how they achieved something or some characteristic they have and wished you could do or have the same. Welcome to the world of envy! It can make us examine ourselves and identify those things we want to change so that we can achieve the things we want. Whether that is a wonderful relationship, a successful career or a more compassionate outlook it doesn’t matter envying those things in other people propels us towards change and being the best version of ourselves we can. Sloth well it can mean a reluctance to make an effort or (perhaps a good description of me) the slowest moving mammal- take your pick ! Ok who, in today’s world, doesn’t want to take a time out from all the madness going on around them ? It’s called being human. We seem to be constantly on the go making time for everyone except ourselves. This is leading to more health issues than ever, caused by burn out. So maybe its time we took a lesson from the Sloth and slowed down a bit. It gives us the chance to appreciate what is around us and what we have and perhaps to reconnect with ourselves and our goals. We get asked this question quite often. So we thought we would answer it. The Seven Deadly Sins (sometimes called Cardinal sins) are Lust, Wrath, Envy, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth and Pride. Over the next few weeks we will give our take on why experiencing them, in today’s world, is often a good thing. So lets kick off with everyones favourite.
